Gum treatment helps reduce preterm birth and low-birth-weight
A recent article in the Journal of Periodontology emphasis the effect of scaling and root planning (gum deep cleaning without surgery) for pregnant women.
The article is a meta-analysis: it gathers all other publications to see if a common trend is present. The study shows that scaling and root planning, or deep cleaning of the gums, is useful on pregnant women who also have gum disease. The treatment helps reduce preterm birth and low-birth-weight.
